Please don't try placing "Mothballs" throughout your home.

Bad practice indeed. Mothballs contain either (naphthalene) or (paradichlorobenzene) as their active ingredient. Both of these substances are fumigants, and are potentially toxic to humans. Can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin.Mothballs’ Link to Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (cancer). If a pregnant woman comes in contact with the substance, it has the ability to cross the placenta in amounts high enough to cause fetal toxicity.
Some symptoms of toxicity may not appear for days after ingestion or contact, and a number of deaths have been reported from intentional ingestion of naphthalene-containing mothballs.
The Risk Assessment Information System indicates the lethal dose of naphthalene for adults is 5 to 15 grams compared to 2 to 3 grams in children.
While not as prominent as naphthalene, paradichlorobenzene is also harmful to children and adults. The insecticide is distributed in blood, fat and breast milk.
Best practice is calling a professional who knows what chemicals (pesticides) to use. Safety for you and your Family are my most important concern. Then I can feel comfortable treating the insects effectively, never losing focus on safety first.

Bedbugs in Cleveland

Bed bugs,eggs,and feces.Cleveland,Ohio
Cleveland is topping my list of "most infested cities with #Bedbugs".
I have been making regular trips to Cleveland area to treat for Bedbugs.I go every week to try and service that area in one day.You know to save gas and just make a convenient day of it.
Well,it is to the point now that several trips a week are needed.
The epidemic seems to be a coincidence of clients who either have a spouse that travels for work.Children in school.Or work in the Federal building downtown.1,2,or 3 of these seem to be a common factor that my clients share.
All I can do is keep stabbing away at this problem Cleveland is faced with.As you know the Bed bugs are making their way further south. As far as New Philadelphia for my preferred travel service area.
Here are a few pic I took while on location in Cleveland.

Mining Bees

4/14/14 I was out on a call for stinging insects.I figured it was most likely to be Yellow Jackets. It was raining that day and thought "good, they will all be in the nest". Upon arrival I found dozens of small holes (less than the diameter of a pencil). No activity was observed.  I proceeded to flush one out to see what I was dealing with here.
To my surprise,I found Mining Bees. "Andrena" in Akron,Ohio not Yellow Jackets.
I am glad it was a  Bee,and not a Wasp.
I predict a heavy population of stinging insects this year. It is off to a good start. Keep your eyes and ears open to avoid being stung. If you have an allergy to Bees then I recommend getting an "Epipen" and keep one near you at all times.
PS. I did not kill the Bees. In fact I plan to have my first (Honey Bee) hive up by the end of the month.

Raccoon

Yes it's that time of year again.
Hearing noises in the attic? Perhaps you hear scratching at the side of your home.
You are not alone! Raccoon den up in chimneys and in attics to give birth to their young. Usually 4-5 babies per litter. Raccoon have the ability to climb very well. Chew holes in your roof. Reeking havoc inside your attic. Wires, structure, and roof shingles are all easy targets for Raccoon. Not to mention the feces and urine smell contaminating the insulation, thus exposing you and your home to damage and disease. Stains on the ceiling, even busting through the ceiling.
Rain gutters and downspouts being pulled off. Soffits are another entry point. Did I mention that gaping hole in your roof? All are just more repair bills that you incur.
Protect yourself and your investment from these nuisance animals.
Do not attempt this alone. Call a professional. New laws have been passed last year as to what, who, and how,can trap and dispose of nuisance wild animals.
A Commercial Nuisance Wild Animal Control Operator is licensed to do just that. Having been properly trained and tested. We posses the necessary license from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Bed bugs exploding in N.E. Ohio

This is a severe infestation of Bed bugs.Patrick's Pest Control was able to treat and eliminate these pests.
The location of this infestation was Dover,Ohio
3/24/14
With a little awareness and being proactive, this #Bedbug problem could have been avoided.
The client said "I have only seen a couple over a 8 month period".What they failed to do is LOOK everywhere on the bed.
Sure they took precautions by putting on a mattress encasement. As you see that did not solve the problem.

I am happy to report as of 4/15/14 the Bedbug problem has been successfully exterminated.
